Collection: Denis Law

Denis Law CBE (born February 24, 1940) is a former forward in Scottish football. In 1956, he began his football career with Huddersfield Town of the Second Division. He was signed by Manchester City for an estimated transfer fee of £55,000 after four years at Huddersfield, which was a new British record.

Law stayed for a year before Torino signed him for £110,000, breaking the previous record for a British player transfer. Despite his success in Italy, he struggled to settle and signed for Manchester United in 1962, establishing another British transfer record of £115,000 in the process.

Law played for Manchester United for 11 years, scoring 237 goals in 404 games. His record of goals places him third all-time at the club, behind Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton. Supporters dubbed him "The King" and "The Lawman", while opponents dubbed him "Denis the Menace".

In 1964, he became the first Scottish player to win the Ballon d'Or trophy, and in 1965 and 1967, he helped his club win the First Division. Due to injury, he was unable to participate in the team's European Cup victory in 1968.

In 1973, Law returned to Manchester City for a season after leaving Manchester United, and he represented Scotland at the 1974 FIFA World Cup. In the 1974–75 season, he only appeared in two competitive games before retiring before the League's official start. Denis Law has a total of 55 caps for Scotland and shares the Scottish international goal scoring record with 30 goals. Law holds a Manchester United record for scoring 46 competitive goals in a single season!
